I hope you make mistakes

“I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes.
Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re Doing Something.
So that’s my wish for you, and all of us, and my wish for myself. Make New Mistakes. Make glorious, amazing mistakes. Make mistakes nobody’s ever made before. Don’t freeze, don’t stop, don’t worry that it isn’t good enough, or it isn’t perfect, whatever it is: art, or love, or work or family or life.
Whatever it is you’re scared of doing, Do it.
Make your mistakes, next year and forever.”

I’ll take that and run with it. I’ve started well… making mistakes, that is.
And more than one of the mistakes that I have already made has been not doing something due to fear, and more than two of the mistakes I have made I don’t even know about yet, and more than three of the mistakes I have made hurt so much that I can’t feel them yet… not yet…
And I’m not stopping. It’s still January, and I’m not broken yet… not yet…
Art and love and work and family and life had all better brace themselves, because this year, this life, is the scariest one I can remember, and I’m doing it.

Thank you for drawing that out of me. I needed this little white box of acceptance, this space to make another mistake, this clear mirror of creativity. Thank you.
